Examine the grading system to check for the quality of the Manuka Honey
WHAT ARE YOU USING THE MANUKA HONEY FOR?
The antibacterial and antibiotic strength of the honey isn’t as important if you are planning to use Manuka Honey for non-medical purposes (eg. as a sweetener, beauty treatment, moisturizer, eczema, bug bites, etc).
On the other hand, if you intend to use Manuka Honey for medicinal applications, the honey needs to have a substantial level of antibacterial activity for it to have its full effectiveness. As such, you will need to pay close attention to the grading system to ensure you are purchasing high quality, medicinal-grade Manuka Honey.
We recommend going with either UMF or MGO graded Manuka Honey, as these grading systems measure the NPA (non-peroxide activity) level, and give a better indication of the antibacterial strength of Manuka Honey.
At the very least, you should be looking at UMF 10+ Manuka Honey for a stronger level of antibacterial activity, or even UMF 15+ for greater effectiveness.
